Celebrating Our Neighbourhood Roots: Sharing Our Stories

You are invited to share your story!

Building Community Solutions is kick-starting 2007 with an exciting community event on February 3rd at the Haney Place Mall (Centre Court) that encourages residents, businesses, service agencies, and community groups to share their positive stories about living in the Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and Katzie communities.

The history of these communities can be seen as an intricately woven tapestry consisting of the stories and experiences of past and current residents, organizations, and community agencies. And it is through these personal stories that Building Community Solutions wants to further explore the concept of "community" and "neighbourhood".

Whether you or your organization explore something as simple as having a neighbour volunteer to help with a household task, a community event that really touched your heart, or a shift in perspective that lead to increased quality of life - each story helps weave the tapestry that celebrates the community in which we live.

Individuals, families, and community groups are encouraged to share their experiences as a means of examining how our community interacts on a variety of levels - from how we live, work, play, move, learn, and engage in our community. Ultimately the combined stories will provide unique insight into the roles that each of us plays in building a strong, healthy community.

Stories can be submitted in a variety of formats including using an online discussion board, on poster paper (kit available through Family Education and Support Centre), as a Powerpoint Template (download template here) or in audio and/or video format.

A Sharing Your Story: Information Kit has been compiled to help you define and display your story for maximum impact. This can be viewed using Adobe Acrobat.
