Building Community Solutions -
Ongoing Activities
In a push to improve the
health of local neighbourhoods, Building Community Solutions offers residents
interested in coordinating and hosting a neighbourhood or block event the
opportunity to apply for a Seed Grant.
The Seed Grant, valued at
up to one hundred dollars, can be used to hire entertainers, purchase food, rent
a hall, buy prizes, or obtain plants to renew a neighbourhood garden – the
options are endless. Residents are encouraged to come up with a creative and
innovative way to bring neighbours together.
Consider hosting a
neighbourhood potluck barbeque, coordinating a block-wide garage sale,
celebrating Canada Day with a neighbourhood parade, planning a summer event for
children and youth, or planting a tree or some plants in a local park as a means
of getting to know your neighbours. Or consider a block party – one means of
connecting all residents on your block.
Block party information kits are
available to assist those interested in hosting such an event.
Take the plunge and
approach your neighbours, you’ll likely find that they would be interested in
joining you at a neighbourhood celebration. Then apply for a
Seed
Grant to help fund this exciting celebration.
