Welcome!
When the Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows and Katzie Building
Community Solutions initiative began in 2001 it was an initiative of the
District of Maple Ridge Social Planning Advisory Council (SPAC), the
Child Youth and Family Network (CYFN), and the
United Way of the Lower Mainland. It has since extended its
reach much farther into the community to include other service agencies,
neighbourhood associations, community groups, and local residents. To learn

The goal of Building Community Solutions is to help
community groups and agencies work together to improve the quality of life,
based on values of mutual respect, open communication and collaboration. The
expected outcomes of Building Community Solutions are:
- Improved services to the community and individuals;
- More local community initiatives and partnerships (the
process is as important as the project);
- Shifts and increases to funding / additional funding;
- Increased community involvement and accountability.
The project has evolved through the following phases:
Phase One– Identify key indicators and trends through the creation of a
Community Impact Profile (CIP).
Phase Two– Develop overall project goals and targets using a community
wide
Study Circle process that gathers the opinions and ideas of local
residents to guide future community initiatives. A report on the Study
Circles is
available
here.
Phase Three – Invest in local strategies and achieve impact by
mobilizing the community to take action on their own ideas.

Phase III goals and outcomes.
Post – Phase Three – Collaborate with two neighbourhoods to develop
Neighbourhood Quality of Life Action Plans and
improve the connections that exist between neighbours.
